Balboa Peninsula
The scenic 5-mile stretch known as “The Peninsula” has Newport Harbor – one of the world’s largest private yacht harbors – on one side and the flat, sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean on the other. The Peninsula is rich in Newport Beach history with its roots dating back to the late 1860’s. Since then, it’s flourished into a world-class vacation destination home to some of the most luxurious harbor and ocean front properties in the world.
The Peninsula itself is home to two piers: Newport Pier and Balboa Pier. Both piers are surrounded by a cluster of local favorite restaurants and neighborhood retail stores which offer a variety of dining and shopping options. There are homes lining the entire stretch of the peninsula and many of the zones of residences are referred to by different names:
- Upper West Newport
- Lower West Newport
- Pier-to-Pier
- Peninsula Point
Balboa Peninsula is home to famed surf spot, “The Wedge”, named because of it’s location at the south end of the Peninsula – wedged between the Newport Harbor entrance and the edge of the Peninsula. One of the most iconic Newport Beach landmarks is the Balboa Fun Zone and the Balboa Ferry. Both are located on the harbor-side of the Peninsula directly across from Balboa Pier. Parallel to the sand on the ocean side of the Peninsula is a 3.5 mile-long concrete boardwalk starting at 35th Street that goes all the way to the end of the Balboa Pier. Perfect for a sunset stroll or a summer bike ride with the family!
With nearly perfect weather all year-round, many people love to call the Peninsula home.
View The Market ReportReal Estate:
The real estate on Balboa Peninsula is mainly single-family homes. Many homes on the Peninsula are built as or zoned for duplexes. It is also one of the few places in Newport Beach where short-term lodging is permitted. Many of the homes are oceanfront or bayfront properties, and all of the homes are within close walking or biking distance to the sand or the harbor. Not only is the Peninsula an amazing place for your primary residence, it is also a wonderful place to purchase an investment property for short and/or long-term rentals.
